FAQs
What is the difference between blinds and shades?
Blinds use adjustable slats; shades use a continuous fabric or material that raises and lowers.
Can Morningside repair blinds bought elsewhere?
Yes. Morningside repairs all brands, subject to product condition and parts availability.
Are showroom visits walk-in?
No. Showroom visits are by appointment.
Does Morningside make drapery locally?
Yes. Custom drapery and Roman shades are made in Morningside's Edmonton workroom.
Does Morningside provide prices online?
No. Product and installation quotes depend on the selected product, measurements and project scope.
Which window coverings do you offer?
Our range includes custom drapery and Roman shades, roller, cellular, zebra, sheer, woven and vertical shades, and wood and faux-wood blinds. We help you compare options for the light, privacy and operation you need.
Which blind and shade brands do you carry?
We carry Hunter Douglas, Alta, Graber, Elite, Maxxmar, Blinds by Vertican. Materials, controls and configurations vary by range, so we compare the suitable options for your project.
Which fabric houses do you work with?
Our fabric options include Alendel, Maxwell, Maharam, JF, Ennis, Unique Fine Fabrics and Medline. The team can help you compare texture, colour and lining choices for drapery or Roman shades.
Which consultation can I book?
Choose a showroom, virtual or in-home consultation through our booking page. Enter your name, phone number and postal code, add any optional project details, then continue to Calendly to choose a time.
What should I bring to a consultation?
Photographs and rough window dimensions are helpful, along with an idea of the light control and look you want. You do not need final measurements or a finished plan before speaking with us.
Can I start a quote with photographs?
Yes. Share photographs, approximate dimensions, the rooms involved and your priorities. We will identify any measurements or site details that need checking before a final quote.
Where is the Edmonton showroom?
Our showroom is at 10721 181 Street NW, Edmonton, AB T5S 1N3. Please arrange an appointment before visiting.
Can you help with a Calgary project?
Contact our team to discuss your project and confirm the available options and service arrangements. Our listed showroom is in Edmonton; we do not list a Calgary showroom address.
When are roller shades a good choice?
Roller shades provide a clean profile with a fabric panel that rolls away when raised. Available fabrics offer different levels of light control; we review privacy, glare and mounting requirements with you.
How do zebra and sheer shades differ?
Zebra shades use alternating sheer and solid bands that align to adjust light. Sheer shades use fabric vanes between sheer layers. Both offer adjustable light control, with different fabrics and configurations by brand.
What makes cellular shades different?
Cellular shades have a honeycomb structure that traps air within the fabric. They offer a compact finish and different light-control options; suitability depends on the window, mounting space and chosen range.
What should I know about woven shades?
Woven shades bring natural texture to a room. The weave affects light and privacy, and a lining may change both. We help you compare materials and lining options before you choose.
What works on a wide window or patio door?
Vertical shades and other side-traversing coverings can suit wide openings and frequently used doors. We check clearances, the direction of travel and where the covering will stack when open.
How do wood and faux-wood blinds compare?
Wood blinds offer the appearance and texture of real wood. Faux-wood options offer a different material and finish. Room conditions, window size and the selected product help determine which is more suitable.
How are Roman shades made?
Our custom Roman shades are made in the Edmonton workroom using fabric, lining and finished dimensions selected for the project. The shade lifts into folds, offering a tailored fabric finish within or around the opening.
How do I choose between Dawn, Day and Dusk?
Dawn, Day and Dusk are our drapery collections for different light-control needs. Compare the fabric and lining with our team, considering daylight, privacy and the room's use rather than choosing by colour alone.
What does finished width mean?
Finished width describes the completed covering, not automatically the width of the window opening. Mounting position, track length, coverage and the space needed for the covering to stack all affect the measurement.
What does finished height mean?
Finished height is the completed covering's vertical measurement. For drapery, it depends on the track position and the intended finish at the floor. Confirm the measuring points before approving dimensions.
Why is your ripplefold ceiling-mounted?
Our ripplefold collection uses ceiling-mounted tracks for a clean, continuous finish and evenly spaced folds. We review the ceiling, mounting details and finished height before confirming the installation.
Can I compare fabrics and colours in person?
Yes. An appointment at the Edmonton showroom lets you compare available fabrics and finishes with our team. Seeing texture and light through a material is often more useful than relying on a screen image.
Can my shades work with a smart-home system?
Compatibility depends on the selected brand, motor, controls and any required hub. Tell us which system you use so we can confirm the relevant options before ordering.
What options should families consider?
Ask about cordless or motorized products where available. We review the controls, access and installation requirements for the specific covering; no window covering replaces appropriate supervision.
Can you help with measuring and installation?
Yes. We help review measurements, mounting requirements and installation as part of the project. For existing coverings or products bought elsewhere, contact the team to confirm what work can be undertaken.
How do I know whether to repair or replace?
Send photographs and describe the product, age and fault. We assess the condition and available parts before recommending a repair or replacement; not every fault has the same solution.
How does your drapery cleaning service work?
We assess the fabric, lining and construction, confirm a suitable cleaning approach, and plan take-down and rehanging within the agreed scope. The method is selected for your drapery rather than assumed from its appearance.
How should I clean blinds and shades?
Start with the care instructions for the specific material and product. Avoid soaking, solvents or aggressive cleaning without confirming suitability. Contact the team if you are unsure about the covering or an existing stain.
Do you support trade and commercial projects?
Yes. We support designers, builders and property teams with workroom-made drapery and Roman shades, branded blinds and shades, supply, installation, bulk replacement and repair. Share the scope so we can review the requirements.
When will my window coverings be ready?
Timing depends on the chosen product, materials, project scope and installation requirements. We confirm the current estimate with your quote rather than apply one delivery promise to every order.
Where can I find your ordering policies?
The Help and Company links in the footer include shipping, refund, privacy and terms information. Contact our team before approving an order if you need clarification about your particular project.

How To Prepare
Virtual | In-store
To make the most of your consultation, it helps to have a general sense of your window or door width, ceiling height and how you would like the covering to operate. Photos of the space are helpful but not required. If you are early in the process, that is fine. We will guide you through it.
